Premiere: Stay Inside – “Puritans”
Over the past year, since releasing their February 2018 EP, The Sea Engulfs Us and the Light Goes Out, Brooklyn post-hardcore quartet Stay Inside have been hard at work writing and recording new music. Last summer, the band released Balancing Acts, a 5-track collaborative album with Good Looking Friends, which showcased the band’s ability to create emotional yet heavy songs through three-part harmonies, post-rock build ups, and, of course, riffs.
Yesterday, Old Press Records released The Final Girl, a triple split EP that’s been long in the making. The 3-song EP features tracks from Stay Inside along with label-mates Dad Thighs and Great Weights. Stay Inside’s contribution to the split, “Puritans,” indicates that the band is heading in a heavier directions while keeping the melodic intricacies heard on their previous releases.
“It’s about the way predatory people can use a context of heightened sensitivity and paranoia to paint themselves as a victim or a martyr.”
-Bryn Nieboer, Stay Inside
“This song is a comment on power and manipulation in artistic communities. It’s about the way predatory people can use a context of heightened sensitivity and paranoia to paint themselves as a victim or a martyr,” Bryn Nieboer (vocals, bass) shared with us. “[It also] uses the (famously misunderstood) Salem witch trials as a metaphor, but in this case, some of the accusers and executioners themselves are the demons.”

On April 19th, Washed Up Emo premiered “Offseason,” the first single from their upcoming debut full-length. The forthcoming album was recorded and mixed by Jon Markson (Taking Meds, Such Gold) at Savaria Studios and Found Soundation, and mastered by Jesse Cannon. The currently untitled release is set to come out later this year.
Stay Inside have busy month of shows ahead of them, so don’t miss your chance to see them perform a bunch of new, unreleased material live.
